Our Hunting Dog

Thursday after school, Rylan came running into the house yelling, "Mom, come quick, look at Pepper!". I immediately thought she'd been ravished by a local mountian lion, coyote or a moving vehicle. I ran outside to find Pepper standing in the bush with a furry little critter in a death grip.

Cold chills went down my back and I let out a screech, "Pepper No, No!". She was not going to let that little furry critter out of her mouth. E came to the rescue with R's work gloves on. E managed to get the animal from Pepper's grip and picked the critter up by it's tail. It wasn't a rat to my relief. I was ready to put a "For Sale" sign in front of my house if it had been a rat. It was a baby possum. Pepper had jumped a foot in the air and grabbed it from the trunk of our tree. E gave it a proper burial...a big fling in the air to the green belt area behind our fence.

Uggg! E was VERY brave! No way could I have done that--and neither would my girls!! I am impressed....is a possum any better than a rat??? You inspired me to post about the critters that have found a way into my attic! Tomorrow!

Yes, it was a possum, the tail was the determining factor...oh, and the tail. Yucky!
